The Challenges

When people have been diagnosed with cancer, or are going through treatment, often they have diminished income or they lose their income altogether. This is when they need help to pay for some basic things - power bills so that their power won’t be cut off. They are necessary expenses that aren’t really funded elsewhere. There isn’t really anywhere else for them to turn.

What Was Done

The Hyman Marks Trust, a non-profit organisation managed by a board of trustees, recognised the financial burden that cancer patients face and took action to assist wherever possible. They listened to the stories of patients in need and identified specific areas where they could help. In many cases, they provided financial support for essential expenses. Their actions provided much-needed relief to patients facing financial difficulties during their cancer treatments.

The Outcomes

As a result of the Hyman Marks Trust's actions, some cancer patients in Christchurch received support for basic necessities and larger expenses, which lifted a significant weight off their shoulders. Patients were able to focus on their treatments without the added stress of financial difficulties.
